I shot 5-over in a tournament yesterday. Or so I thought. I had to DQ myself after the round upon reviewing the rules about provisional balls.
On the 15th hole, it appeared that I hit my tee shot into the left rough. We searched for my ball. During the search, it was suggested that I go hit a provisional ball from the tee box while my group continued to look for my ball. I went back to the tee box, and I hit a provisional ball (I even declared it as a provisional ball). Moments later, my group found my Original Ball in the middle of our fairway – the ball was much farther down the fairway than we expected. I then chose to hit my original ball. This is where I broke the rules. According [...]

I have to add another plug for the Hammer Drill. My usual speed with my 7i was around mid-70’s and I was so excited when I posted awhile back that I had hit 92 mph. Well, yesterday at the range, thinking only hammer drill I topped out my 7i at 102 mph. Could not maintain that on subsequent swings but it was very exciting to see 3 digits on my SSradar. Unfortunately so far I can’t carry that over to the driver. After my 102 on my 7, I was hoping for huge numbers with my driver. Maxed it out at 104 mph. A meager 2 mph over my 7i. Driver feels different to me with the drill but I’m stickin’ with it. Things are looking up.

Two questions about this. I played today, and hit some really good shots, but my bad ones were weak, wiped shots to the right, or low, hustling snap hooks. I believe both were caused by spinning out and trying to save the shots.

Playing with a friend tomorrow, and would like to try and tame this a little. With that in mind, here are my questions:

1) Any good ways to tame it quickly, or get it under control while on the course?

2) Can it sometimes be caused by being the wrong distance from the ball?

Thanks.

Where to start? You have to make a few assumptions – like you’ve mentioned, solid contact is one. A program like trajectoware (it’s free last time I checked) will allow you to tweak just about any launch parameter you want, or calculate back and forth (for a given swing speed and loft, clubhead mass and COR, what ball speed, launch angle and spin do I get and vice versa) – so you could play around in it and find out. The “golden 3″ of distance is ball speed, launch angle, and spin. From driver to wedge, these are the numbers that will dictate your shot. For example, I’m sure you’ve heard for years that the “magic number” for drivers is 14 degrees of launch with 2400 rpm backspin as perfect. Yeah – perfect if your ball speed is under 140. Over [...]

Guys,

It’s been almost 18 months since my last post here. I am glad to be back to golf and this forum. I am still in amazement with Jamie’s swing. Here’s something I’d like to share. My typical driver CHS without a ball using the SST (radar) is around 104-108. Yesterday, I tried two things which I don’t do with my typical driver:

Move the hands higher (above the head) at the top of the backswing- steeper plane, which may be the correct plane?
Let the club go below parallel (yeah, where you can see the club head out of the left eye!)

Result on the SST – first swing: 122 MPH! Can’t be real. Second swing: 120 MPH. Holy crap. So then, which is it – the height of the hands or the over-rotation (technically, there is no such thing [...]
