I shot 5-over in a tournament yesterday. Or so I thought. I had to DQ myself after the round upon reviewing the rules about provisional balls.
On the 15th hole, it appeared that I hit my tee shot into the left rough. We searched for my ball. During the search, it was suggested that I go hit a provisional ball from the tee box while my group continued to look for my ball. I went back to the tee box, and I hit a provisional ball (I even declared it as a provisional ball). Moments later, my group found my Original Ball in the middle of our fairway – the ball was much farther down the fairway than we expected. I then chose to hit my original ball.
